The World According To Arthur - Penhaligon’s

At the end of last year we were honoured to be commissioned to create a run of images for world renowned Perfume brand Penhaligon’s

With a history stretching back to 1870’s London and two royal warrants, the brand is a British institution with a strong sense of place and time. Their story makes for engaging reading but, the narratives don’t stop there and following them takes us beyond fact and into the world of fiction.

For the launch of their newest fragrance ‘The world according to Arthur’ gave us a chance to be part of that and if our brief could be condensed down to a single term it would be ‘story telling’. Luckily, that is what we do best! Like his counterparts from the ‘Portraits Collection’ Arthur is both a fragrance and a personified character: a strong willed Aristocrat who sports the head of a dragon and who’s wanderlust is only matched by his disregard for custom. Who better to inspire the creative process?

Utilising hand made sets and props designed and built in house, we set about creating images that would represent  Arthur’s key desires and relationships. Quickly we realised that each element would need to symbolise something about him and the other members of the collection that he is shown interacting with. The end result was a run of seven images encapsulating the character’s unwillingness to abide by his families expectations and his undying craving to visit distant lands.

So, here’s the Arthur and his need for adventure. Having him in the studio was certainly and adventure in itself and we’d do it agin in a heartbeat.
